A Workshop for First Responders and Their Spouses with Dr. Jody Carrington
November 16, 2018 @ 10:00 – 4:00
First Responders and Their Back Up – Workshop for Spouses of Firefighters, Police, Paramedics & Emergency Services Heroes along with Their Heros and Dr. Jody Carrington
I believe in two things.
First, I am a believer in the idea that you are exactly where you need to be. No matter how painful. No matter how wonderful. But wherever you are, you are there, and that’s very important to me. Second, I believe that everyone has a “story” and it is this story that guides your relationships. Understanding it can help you make sense of where you’ve come from and help you write all future chapters that await.
ORGANIZATIONS ARE ONLY AS STRONG AS THE EMPLOYEES WHO SERVE IN THEM AND EMPLOYEES ARE ONLY AS STRONG AS THE PEOPLE WHO HOLD THEM.
We’ve known that for a long time: if we look after our people, they will be able to do their job at their best. Police, Fire, and EMS crews are often identified as suffering some of the most traumatic situations on the “front-line” in their job. There is also the continued focus on the “stigma” of talking about mental health and the often-feared PTSD in the emergency services world. There have been a long line of resources developed for the serving member, but very little effort has been directed to the support systems.
This day was developed for the “other side of the hero”. A day just for spouses of those who do EMS work, either as a career or as a volunteer. This day, we will look after you—and remind you why you matter. This day is about trauma, when and why it can be a big deal (and what to do about it). We’ll talk all about relationship and connection and timing. And we’ll wrap up this epic day with some time to talk about what’s needed most right now from those of you most familiar with this work so that we can move forward with sights on being better than we’ve ever been.
Lunch and Snacks will be provided
