I very much enjoy working with parents and children who are struggling with a range of relationship issues and mental health struggles, including anxiety, depression, behavioural difficulties, and school problems. I have also done trauma and grief work with children and families. My most favourite work recently, after completing an externship in Emotion Focussed Therapy, has been working with couples. It all comes down to the ever-important “relationship stuff”!
When working with children, my first step is to usually meet with the parents or caregivers first to get a sense of their story. This can take one to two hours. If we (you and I) think it’s necessary, then I like to do an assessment with the child, which usually involves a one hour meeting where we play games, do some drawings, and I start to get to know “their story” – from their (very important) perspective. If I think a more formalized assessment is required that might involve specific, standardized testing, we can discuss it further at that time. If further therapy is required, either involving you, them, or everyone together, we will make a plan together that makes sense to you.
When working with adults, you can bet that our first session will involve a lot of me getting to know your story. I have worked with adults dealing with a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety and depression, as well as those looking to make significant changes in their life, whatever that may be. Then, we can decide as a team the course of treatment, if it is required. Asking for help is humbling (and I would know). It’s also the start of a new chapter in your story. You get to decide how that is written. And in this, perspective is everything.
My standard rate, in line with provincial guidelines, is $190/hour for individual assessment and treatment.
We are sorry to say we are not taking any New Clients at this time.
